So Id heard about this film from Korea called Oldboy for years, - TopicsExpress

So Id heard about this film from Korea called Oldboy for years, even saw a clip of extreme but well-choreographed violence a few years back. Then I read that the list in Captain America, the Winter Solider that Steve carried around so he can catch up on what he missed for seventy-odd years had been changed to reflect the mass media culture of the local market, so while in America the film Steve had to see was Titanic (which I only just watched), in Asia, its Oldboy. Which is a pretty violent melodrama of existential extreme cruelty, which our protagonist is fully capable of himself. When I reached the point where, after licking his captors shoes and wagging his butt like a dog, he cuts off his own tongue, I had lost all interest in knowing what happens next, even though theres only 20 minutes left. Not exactly a Christmas movie, but I had no one to blame but myself. Besides, by now it was more than obvious this was a movie Steve Rogers would never watch. Sams recommendation of a Marvin Gaye CD in the film makes more sense, because not only does the suggestion tell us something about Sam, but Steve might actually like it. A great mind at work, folks. I channel-surfed till I reached the last act of the Alastair Sim Christmas Story, which has made me foreswear all others down through the years. The transformed Scrooge scenes still made me laugh out loud, especially when the maid throws her apron over her head and runs out of the room. That over, I reach a movie on the (presumably new) El-Rey network, which has a drive in B-movie mentality, and seems to have the rights to every John Carpenter and Shaw Brothers movie in history. Between the commercials and the movie, they have a card that says in effect, El-Rey shows these movie uncut and uncensored, and contains scenes of a mature nature that may offend those who know nothing about drive-in movies. They do this to preserve the directors artistic vision. The movie in question was Godzilla vs. Mothra.
