SHROVE TUESDAY IF we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just - TopicsExpress

SHROVE TUESDAY IF we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. THERE is a silver sheen on the rooftops as the morning sun melts the misty film from last nights gentle frost, and I reminisce on the correctness with which this day was observed in the Christian Church. The ringing of the church bell summoned worshippers to express sorrow for sins and receive absolution from the priest:- a solemn moment, after which everyone went back to the workaday world. IN SVG, this day was also the climax of the Carnival:-goodbye to the flesh, a day of celebration when massed and masqued bands would parade the streets, and bois-bois men would dance skilfully on their lengthened legs! No more dancing and feasting until Easter! TODAY, I shall miss making pancakes: the tradition faded out in the home when my young ladies flew the nest, but was revived in the period 1997-2000, when my young, elder grandson would be the chef, mixing the ingredients, and enjoying tossing the pancakes! Of course the greater pleasure was in eating them with whatever the spread or flavouring desired. AS a nation and a people, confession of wrongdoing, and asking forgiveness are the keys to holy living. Our purpose should be that of giving up or surrendering something of ourselves to help others. JESUS GAVE HIS ALL. AS we use up all the fat, flour and eggs today in preparation for the coming days of abstinence, and maybe take part in a PANCAKE RACE, may we ponder the greater good done in our lives through the grace of Jesus. FOR ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes, He became poor that ye through His poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9. HAPPY TUESDAY!
