SIGN, SIGN EVERYWHERE A SIGN By Vic Armijo June 17, 2014 Grafton, West Virginia When traveling the RAAM route that fervor for the race in Ohio is evident long before arriving at the Blanchester or Oxford time stations—there are hundreds of RAAM directional signs placed at roadside to ease the burden of navigating the many turns through the back roads and farmlands, “Mike Minium does all that,” reports Lee Kreider, host of the Ohio RAAM Show (ohioraamshow). “Most of the money for the signs came out of his pocket. And every year he loses about 20-30% of them. That’s not an inexpensive thing he does! That St. Mary’s road, I’ve driven that in the day time and gotten lost! He begins the signs at Greensberg. So that’s close to a hundred miles of signage!” That enthusiasm is even more evident upon arriving in Blanchester or Oxford where it seems that no matter what time of day or night a rider or team arrives, there will be dozens of cheering fans to greet their arrival. “You know Blanchester is just a little town and RAAM is the biggest thing that happens there all year,” Kreidler said.
