***SILENCE ON ASUP STRIKE*** For Over a month now, members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics have been on strike over the failure of the Federal Government to implement the agreements it reached with the Union. It will be recalled that a previous strike action earlier this year was suspended on july17 but the Federal Government reneged on its promises forcing the lecturers to resume the strike on October4. What is Worrisome however is that Unlike its counterpart in the Universities, the ASUP Lecturers seems not to be putting pressure on the Federal Government to implement its demands. Even the Affected students are Silent about it. There have been no press release, No Protests demonstrations by the lecturers to force the government to do the right thing. The current siddon-look attitude of ASUP members will not resolve the industrial dispute; instead, a medium of dialogue should be opened straightway between ASUP and the government so that our students can resume in earnest.
