SIN IS NOT MY MASTER!!! Quitting a habit or sin can be one of the hardest things in life, but it becomes easy when we realize Jesus didn’t just die to forgive us of our sin, but to give us power over it, and free us from being in bondage to anything! Romans 6:14 says, “Sin shall not have dominion over you.” Many people have read this as a command. Yet, this is not a command—it’s a powerful promise from God! Rather than reading it fearfully—“Oh no, I better make sure that sin doesn’t have dominion over me!”—Read it as a promise that God is going to back up. “Sin doesn’t have dominion over me; I have dominion over it. God has made me to rule and reign in life!” In 1 Corinthians 15:34, Paul tells believers to, “Awake to righteousness and sin not.” In other words, when the alarm clock goes off and you are awakened to the fact that you are righteous, you’ll say, “Whoa! I’m the righteousness of God! Whoa! Through the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness I reign in life!” When you awaken to this truth, sin loses its power over your body and your mind. How? Romans 6:14 continues, “Sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under the law but under grace.” What does it mean to be under grace? It means grace reigns in our lives. We bow our knee to the grace of God. We bow our knee to what Jesus did for us. So sin is not our master—but grace is! Meaning, we’re guided by grace, governed by grace and EMPOWERED by grace. Yes, we’re saved by God’s grace, but it does much more than just save us. Titus 2:11 says, “It is the grace of God that enables and instructs us to resist and deny ungodliness.” So the grace of God is God’s divine enablement and divine empowerment to live godly lives! Set your alarm clock to righteousness today and declare God’s promise with confidence: “Sin does not have dominion over me. I’m not under the power of any sin, I’m under grace-which is God’s divine empowerment to live a life free from sin. I’m the righteousness of God and therefore I rule and reign in this life!”
