SMAC Bi-National Council Meeting The Starr County, Miguel Aleman and Camargo (SMAC)Bi-National Health Council held a meeting on March 24, 2014 in Rio Grande City to discuss health issues that affect both sides of the border. Among the discussion topics was the persistence of Tuberculosis Disease in both sides of the country and the measures and resources available to assist persons infected with the disease. Starr County Judge Eloy Vera and County Commissioner Court approved a proclamation declaring March 24, 2014 as Tuberculosis Day in Starr County in an effort to create community awareness of this disease. The disease is treatable and the Texas Department of Health (TDHS) has resources available for medical attention for persons infected with the disease.
