SNAKE-PROOF YOUR HEART By Lakan Mariano Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, Did God really say... Genesis 3:1 Slithering through every church, coiled in every home where Gods Word is read, spewing his intellectually tantalizing venom of doubt, Satan poisons a persons heart. He strums a sympathetic tune to one who is hurting, then in the sweetest of whispers, he strikes, Did God really say? He and his demons lurk at every patch of lifes road sweet-talking and caressing people but ready to hammer the stake of doubt in their hearts. When a person bends his ear to his suggestion casting doubt on God, he wraps you in a coil slowly squeezing every ounce of faith out of you, then goes for the kill, You will not certainly die (v. 4), directly contradicting God. Satan is the master of deception. He camouflages himself as the voice of reason, as the ultimate pragmatist, as a sympathetic counselor. But the light of Gods Word strips him of his mask exposing his sinful, ugly heart. The truth of Gods Word slashes his lies and deception to pieces. When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus simply said, It is written:... (Luke 4:4, 8, 12). Believers can do no better. Snake-proof your heart and your mind with Gods Word. Read it. Study it. Meditate on it. Listen to it. Memorize it. Obey it. Love it. LORD, I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11).
