SNOW SQUALL WATCH 3:16 PM EST Thursday 01 January 2015Snow squall watch in effect for: • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago • Innisfil - Angus - New Tecumseth Snow squalls are occurring in the west flow off the Great Lakes. The winds will slowly shift to northwest tonight, bringing the snow squalls into the regions. Local snow amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible. The main concern will be significantly reduced visibilities in heavy snow and blowing snow. Snow squalls should weaken Friday morning. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to getprepared.gc.ca/Snow Squall Watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities. Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio.
