SNOW provides insulation to the ground. When soil temperatures - TopicsExpress

SNOW provides insulation to the ground. When soil temperatures fluctuate between freezing and thawing, it causes changes to the water in the soil, and thus expanding and contracting. Roots can be damaged, and even tossed out of the soil. This “frost heaving” also damages the bulbs that were recently planted this past fall. Snow protects the soil from the extremes and helps maintain constant temperatures. There is good reason to love the snow and appreciate it’s benefits to the soil.
