SO, WHAT’S CHIEF BISI AKANDE’S ‘SIN’? First, let me be - TopicsExpress

SO, WHAT’S CHIEF BISI AKANDE’S ‘SIN’? First, let me be unequivocal: I am not Chief Akande’s protégé or mouth-piece. I am even not a member of APC. It’s important to get that out of the way. But seriously speaking, what has the old man done wrong? I don’t get it. What is denigrating to the Office of the President to describe the holder of that office as incompetent and as a ‘kindergarten leader’ if that’s how one perceives the holder of the office? What is disrespectful to the Office of the President to allege that the occupant is treating important state matters with levity? Does anybody expect the National Chairman of the main opposition party to sing the praises of the man his party hopes to upstage? What’s wrong with saying that the president’ action or conduct is unbecoming of the office he holds? The office and the occupant are markedly two ‘entities’. I laughed at those who made comparison with Barack Obama and how Americans treat their president. They simply have no idea what they are talking about? They probably have never heard of Sarah Palin or Ann Coultier. And if they have not, then I can forgive them for not knowing what Rush Limburgh and Glenn Beck, the duo of ultra-conservative talk-show hosts, say to and about Barack Obama. Yet I do not hear ‘disrespect’ to the office of president of America. An example of disrespect to the Office of President’ would be when one Congressman heckled the president calling him ‘Liar’ as Barack was delivering his State of the Union Address or when, in a live debate, John McCain called Barack, a presidential candidate then, “that one”. Not a few Republicans upbraided their erring members on those two instances. Those are quite different if the men had gone to say Barack is incompetent. In fact Donald will not back from saying he doesn’t believe Barack Obama was born in America. A respected friend of mine once ‘scolded’ me for addressing President Jonathan Goodluck as ‘Mr’ instead of ‘Dr’. I think our culture of respect is inhibiting the growth of our nation. If you ask questions that border on accountability during OBJ’s tenure, my compatriots would waste no time to remind you that he is ‘agba’. Don’t question the wisdom of constructing a 3-km auditorium without adequate provision for hazards and bottle-necks such venture would create, my fellow believers would waste to time to quote for you “thou shall do no harm to My prophets”. So, you ask me if Akande was right to describe Jonathan as kindergarten leader? ABSOLUTELY, I WOULD ANSWER YOU.
