SO here is my analysis about IAS Pre - 2014 !! Though I cleared last years Pre with 280 marks but this paper was different, expecting less this time (will be clearing definitely). Paper 1 was not easy as it was fact based, more Environment, less and direct polity and economics, culture was also in good amount. Paper 2: was of 185 and 15 marks decision making part was also missing which is only a marks booster without any negative marking for those. Paper 2 was though easy but was very lengthy and my most of friends who have cleared earlier papers(+who are in services) also are saying the same thing. SO I think cutoff will be going to reduce(which even UPSC also wants to do): and my analysis puts it at 215 for general !! There are many people who are getting 270, 280 etc which can be true also but do remember here the idea is just to clear the cutoff not to top it. Each year there is same pattern - there are people who will be at the top level and there are people at below average level also(remember the Bell shape curve - between frequency and marks range). The idea is to get a safe number and perform good in both papers (if you are doing great that is a plus point). 90 in paper 1 is good and 225 in 2nd is good. Best wishes !! Thanks !!
