SOAP BOX ALERT! I am really disheartened by how stressed out my 3rd grader is over his FCAT testing, which begins tomorrow. I fail to see how it is productive for the schools to place so much emphasis on a test that they then need to give them instruction on coping and relaxing. There is no reason my 3rd grader should be in bed nearly beside himself on the verge of tears over ANY test...worried sick that he could be made to repeat 3rd grade. As parents, we have said very little about the exam beyond the questions he has asked and we know he will do fine, but his anxiety is palpable. Why is it not enough to just teach the children? Why all the hype? Who do they think they are kidding when they say they do not teach the test? That is all...soap box vacated.
