SON OF BALWINs powerful comment in response to this post: What the United States, Russia, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Uganda have in common is that *technically*, its illegal to murder queer people. Socially and spiritually, however, are other matters entirely. People always talk their right to take a stand against queer peoples lifestyle, that hate speech is protected by the First Amendment, that disapproving of the existence of queer people is not, in and of itself, hate speech at all, but merely freedom of choice and freedom of religion. They never want to take responsibility for the kind of hostile atmosphere those freedoms generate. They dont claim ownership of the social normalities their rational or religious dogma creates. They want to be able to whip people into a rabid moral frenzy, indoctrinate them into believing that queer people are unnatural, a threat to civil society, or the enemies of God and all things that are good, but stop short at implicating themselves whenever a successfully trained convert accomplishes the unspeakable. Plausible deniability: I never told anyone to murder anyone else. I just said that queers are sub-human/demon-spawn that are destroying our society/God says to stone to death. I cant be held responsible for what anyone else does with that information. Every genocide begins with the rhetorical insistence upon the dehumanization of one group by another (for all sorts of reasons) and denial of any culpability for what the rhetoric incites. But that the dehumanization rhetoric is designed to incite violence against those being dehumanized is an indisputable fact. The strategy is that the orators are trying to get as little blood on their hands as possible by ensuring that someone else is acting on their orders. Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson left Houston on Wednesday night for a trip to Galveston for Mardi Gras in their new car. Their families never heard from them again, and early Friday morning, their bodies were discovered near a Dumpster outside a convenience store in Port Bolivar, on the island just north of Galveston. Police say they’d been murdered. Cosby and Jackson, both 24-year-old Houston residents, had been together two years, and Jackson was the mother of a 5-year-old. Jackson was a barista at Starbucks, and Cosby was a security guard. That was her girlfriend, that was her soulmate, one of Cosby’s neighbor’s, James Randle, told ABC, according to Elixher. This was senseless, but dont think for a moment that it wasnt strategic. While it probably wasnt organized, per se, dont think for a moment that isnt part of the larger American social war against queer people. Anyone who has ever given voice to queerantagonism is implicated right alongside the human being who was actually able to shut off their heart and remove their spirit long enough to carry out the gruesome act.
