SONG OF THE DAY!!! (JUNE-19) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ…(Philippians 3:8) #### I’d Rather Have Jesus ### Words by: RHEA. F. MILLER I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold; I’d rather be His than have riches untold; I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands; I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand . Refrain: Than to be the king of a vast domain Or be held in sin’s dread sway; I’d rather have Jesus than anything This world affords today. I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause; I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause; I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame; I’d rather be true to His holy name. He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom; He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb; He’s all that my hungering spirit needs; I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead. Amen!!! HYMNAL CHALLENGE !!!! There are many today (Christians and non-Christians) who would sing: “I’d rather not have Jesus ….. if I have to change my life-style and give up some things I enjoy now.” Or, “I’d rather not have Jesus if I have to give up my belief that all roads lead to heaven.” Many people are searching for meaning to life. They are asking, “Why am I here?” “What is life and death all about?” Many people are looking in the wrong places to find Jesus. The good news is that Jesus is always patiently waiting for you. Jesus knocks at the heart of every person and asks the person to open their heart’s door and invite Him in. Revelation 3:20 Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.” (Revelation 3:20 NLT) The Bible Teaches that Jesus the one and only way? John 14:6 Jesus said to his followers: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. He is here making a claim to be unique, and to be the only way to God. This is not just the claim of Jesus himself. It is also the unanimous teaching of the early Church. For example, when Peter is hauled before the religious leaders in Jerusalem, he tells them, in Acts 4:12: It was said that back in the thirties. Twenty-two-year-old George Beverly Shea was employed as a clerk in a New York insurance company. He was gifted with a deep voice, and was offered a radio contract. He saw opportunities for possible riches and fame. He had been pondering and praying about the matter for several days when he sat down to the piano early one Sunday morning to rehearse a hymn he was to sing in church that morning. As he played and sang his eyes fell on a piece of paper, on which was written: Id rather have Jesus than silver or gold Id rather be His than have riches untold! George Beverly Shea had the same perspective as did Paul the Apostle who, though much educated, far advanced in Judaism, highly born, decided Jesus was more desirable than those things. He wrote, Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for Whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ; the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:4-14 (NIV). Hes still calling us heavenward, and we will never get there until Jesus is first in our lives. Put Him there right now as we sing: Ill Put Jesus First In My Life. CONCLUSION: If you had to choose between Jesus and something precious to you…some alluring dream or tantalizing desire…what would you choose – Jesus or something else? Jesus cannot be compared to anything whatever....
