¥¥ SONIDOS DEL PERÚ ¥¥¥ SACRED RITUALS OF (AND AROUND) CUSCO two films and albums as dyptical visions of spirits in the Andes first, a collage from the legendary pilgrimage of QOYLLURITI, inherited from the old Inca ages and still going strong on noise and dances second, the procession of CORPUS CHRISTI, on the main square of Cusco, or baroque south american catholicism in all its glory ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ 13¥ QOYLLURITI https://vimeo/102386770 https://petitesplanetes.bandcamp/album/sonidos-del-per-qoylluriti •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The ultimate mix in between ancient andean spirituality and surreal popular catholicism, the procession of Qoylluriti is getting more attended every year, something you wouldnt like to miss in your tour after the Macchu Picchu and Cusco. What they dont say is that its cold, up there, at night. And that the bands never stop playing, 24hours long, amongst firecrackers and weird dances. Complete chaos, where at some point some people are supposed to reach for the snow and bring it back - but this element has been more or less suppressed because of global warming someone said. I couldnt sleep, I couldnt stand the cold and the stupid noise. I left soon after I arrived, just with an hour recording of sounds. On my way back, hidden behind a rock, i stumbled upon an old silent roll of film, dating from 50 years ago apparently. Heres the collage resulting. ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ 14¥ CORPUS CHRISTI https://vimeo/93149382 https://petitesplanetes.bandcamp/album/sonidos-del-per-corpus-christi-cusco •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Cuscos history is one of invasions. Nowadays, the invasion looks like old couples in groups taking photos and young ones getting offered mixes of cocaine and ayahuasca around the corner. But Cusco still lives, and the use of tourism to help maintain certain traditions offers some interesting experiences. While the Inti Raymi, the party for the sun, lost its spirit long time ago, the Corpus Christi one, taking place early june each year, is a much more powerful and complex one. As in any god-related celebrations, its the intensity of the believers who elevate them towards the spirits. Pushing, suffering, carrying icons around the main square, for the whole day, to the sound of andean orchestras and chants in latin or quechua. Corpus Christi is a film exploring this in-between of cultures, this never-ending mix and various levels of dominations never talked about. The invasion is not over but the spirits are looking at it with a smile. ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ WATCH the entire SONIDOS DEL PERÚ collection vimeo/album/3050162 LISTEN petitesplanetes.bandcamp/ a 33 films and albums collection made by Vincent Moon all around the country, researching on local music from Iquitos to Arequipa, from Pucallpa to Chiclayo, from Huancayo to Lima and more.
