SOOOOOOOOOOOO, we come to the end of another WHS Homecoming Alumni - TopicsExpress

SOOOOOOOOOOOO, we come to the end of another WHS Homecoming Alumni Weekend Extravaganza! Lots o fun and some VERY interesting moments [to say the least]! To recap my post from yesterday, many thanks should go out to all the people who were directly involved with and to those in more of a supportive role for not only Homecoming Night activities but also for todays. Despite the rain Fri night, we had a great turn-out for the Undefeated Teams and for the Alumni Band. Yesterday, some class reunions were held [1979 & 1989, possible 1974]. Getting good feedback that those groups had a wonderful night! Cool beans! Today the spectators were sparse @ the Alumni Flag Game but our illustrious Alumni gathered and played anyway. This year’s Flag Game committee was Justin Becker & Jeff Detwiler. They did a wonderful job making it happen! The MEP [Most Experienced Player aka the oldest] this yr was Mike Robley, and I had the privilege of seeing him score a touchdown [Repin 1992 pirates, eh Mike? :-D ]! Our boys played hard and enjoyed the day! For the Alumni Picnic, we had about 20 people come and eat hot dogs [we had 5 8-packs & 4 were gone by the time we left @ 330]!! A little chilly, but a beautiful day to end our weekend! After everything played out as it did this year, I’d like to lead into next year with actual committees. 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the WHS Alumni Band and, more importantly, Williamsburg’s 225th anniversary. In July, there will be a 4-day celebration [July 23-26]. In the fall, I’d love to see Homecoming Weekend PACKED with events, so we can bring home as many alumni as possible! Methinks there should be a committee for each event [e.g., Alumni dance; Afterparty; Picnic; Alumni Flag Game; Silks; Majorettes; Cheerleaders; Footballers, etc]. One group that we didn’t get to honor this yr was the 1974 Band for their 1st place parade win in Ireland against bands from America & Europe. They had a great impact on the history of the school and the community. Let’s bring them home and celebrate them next yr. I will gladly be a hub of info and a source of enthusiasm to help coordinate and move all the committees. I just don’t feel I can adequately coordinate more than 2 things at a time – left to my own devices, stuff can fall apart pretty quickly. I’m protective and passionate about this weekend and want to see things work out well for everyone. Please PM me soon to let me know if you want to take lead on any committees. Now a special thanks to everyone who approached me face-to-face, txtd, posted, or PMd me with supportive, encouraging, thankful, and protective words RE: Homecoming Weekend, its preparation rigors, and the naysayers. All the efforts are not just me but a group of dedicated people who work hard to bring it together. Thank you all! As many of you may know now, we had a bout of negativity come our way over the last couple weeks that culminated in some craziness last night online. Although no one could have predicted it or prevented it, I feel the need to send an apology to the admin of the Williamsburg High School Alumni [Pennsylvania] page and to those who were negatively impacted. It was an unnecessary blemish on the weekend. It’s difficult at best to deal with things of such an unpredictable nature [e.g., people’s personal issues] and it’s darn near impossible to tiptoe around them, because typically some people are looking for a fight to reconcile emotional issues. I have always and will continue to deal with everyone the best way I know how – with Love. Above all, I will advocate to any and all committees, shouting from the rooftops if necessary, the importance of keeping the culture of Homecoming one that is welcoming; conveying a sense of belonging to all who want to be a part of it! At the same time, I refuse to walk on eggshells or cower before those rare dramatic few with violent tendencies. No matter what I do, someone will find fault with it. No one can live their lives happily by walking on eggshells. Yes, I got blamed for things that are untrue, yet I take no offense because the claims were untrue or misconstrued notions anyway. I feel like I have an empathetic understanding as to where those personal issues have come from, so that makes it easier to stomach. I’ll pray for emotional healing and peace for these individuals and continue to show them the Love God intended us to show. On an ironic and inappropriately comical note, “Friend” has been unfriended & blocked from their pages. Lol Such is life. ♥ :-)
