SOUTHWEST CHANGE TO SPREAD NORTH Good morning. SOme heavy frosts in places this morning. A reasonably settled early morning but a southwest change spreads north bringing showers for many (more so about coastal areas) with southwest winds becoming strong about a number of places. Watch for gales about the Kaikoura Coast and Banks Peninsula. KAIKOURA / NORTH CANTERBURY Temperature High: 11 degrees Overnight Low: 5 degrees (Kai) Wind Direction: SW Developing Rainfall: 1-3mm Details: Fine at first with light winds, westerlies a little further inland in some areas and about Kaikoura at first. A change around or just after midday to strong southwesters, especially about the coast, which will bring a few showers. Snow flurries to 400m-500m in Kaikoura and as low as 300m in North Canterbury in any heavier showers. CHRISTCHURCH Temperature High: 8 degrees Overnight Low: 3 degrees Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 1-3mm Details: Fine with morning frosts at first, some severe! Clouding over with a strong cold southwest change towards noon bringing occasional showers, falling as snow to 400m. Southwesterlies hanging around through the evening. BANKS PENINSULA Temperature High: 8 degrees Overnight Low: 0 degrees Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 5-10mm Details: Fine with frosts in some places at first. Strong cold showery southwesters developing towards noon with flurries gradually lowering to 300m. A chance of some heavy showers briefly this evening about the eastern fringes. Southwesters rising to gale gusting to 80km/h at times with gusts to 100km/h possible about the top.
