SPOILERS FOR HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 1 (but none for 2, dont - TopicsExpress

SPOILERS FOR HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 1 (but none for 2, dont worry) Some of you may remember me doing a small rant on disabilities and super-heroes, where I pointed to Barbara Gordon/Oracle as one of the few examples of a really well done disabled hero. I would now like to add Hiccup to that list as well. As you may remember from the end of HTTYD1, the big battle costs Hiccup his leg. And he makes a prosthesis for it. Well I hope you dont consider it spoilers to note that he carries this change to part 2. What I like, though, is that while they distinctly acknowledge the fact, it DOESNT alter his character much. He was always building gadgets, and he was always the best dragon rider. As we see in the end of part 1, he finds a way to specialize his prosthetic to allow him to ride Toothless, but while it is fancy it doesnt give him super dragon riding skills beyond what he had before. He is a hero before his injury, and hes very much the same hero post-injury, all while not ignoring or denying the injury.
