SPORTS ALERT Sunday, July 7, 2013 12:24 PM EDT Andy Murray Tops Novak Djokovic to Win Wimbledon in Three Sets Second-seeded Andy Murray ended Britain’s 77-year drought at Wimbledon on Sunday, beating Novak Djokovic, the top seed, in three sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. Before today, Fred Perry had been the last British man to win singles at Wimbledon. While this is his first British Grand Slam, Murray captured the Olympic gold medal last year at the All England Club, the home of the Wimbledon. Murray and Djokovic have been building a Grand Slam rivalry of late; Sunday’s match was their fourth meeting in a major final — and third in less than a year. Djokovic beat Murray at the Australian Open in 2011. Murray beat Djokovic at the U.S. Open last September, and Djokovic beat Murray at the Australian Open in January. He joins Marion Bartoli of France, who won her first grand slam on Saturday, by defeating Sabine Lisicki, 6-1, 6-4.
