SPRAIN Sprains results from abnormal stretching or partial tearing of the supporting ligaments of any joint, Ankles are the most common. There is pain, swelling, tenderness and brushing, but the patient can still use the joint or limb. Treatment: 1) In a bush walking situation it may be better NOT to remove the boot, if the boot comes above the ankle. 2) Otherwise, remove the shoe, elevate and support the foot and apply a cold compress for 15 minutes, then support the joint with a firm elastic bandage.
