SPYL STATEMENT ON WORLD YOUTH ELECTION OF SPYL TO SERVE AS AFRICA REPRESENTATIVE ON THE WFDY INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE. 9 August 2013 The SWAPO Party Youth league (SPYL) guided by its constitutional principle of promoting "principles of anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and stability in Africa and the world” and that of maintaining “historical links and also establish new ones with other progressive international youth and student movements” had made a deliberate decision, several years ago, to take up bonafide membership of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), with a view to intensify its anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles and conduct its internationalist obligations. Of many events of WFDY, the World Festival of Youth and Students is one of the effective platforms where world youth gather to articulate their issues, propose policies and share experiences of anti-imperialist, leftist and pro-poor struggles around the world. The 2013 festival will take place in Ecuador in December. The SPYL, represented by its Secretary for International Affairs, Cde Edward Kondjeni Kafita, has been attending WFDY international events where world youth make key decisions. At the WFDY meeting that took place on the 9 August 2013 in Luanda, Angola, the youth of the world elected the SPYL to represent the African youth at the International Organizing Committee (IOC) for the festival in Ecuador. The trust that the world youth placed into the militant and radical SPYL does not come as a surprise for the SPYL is known internationally as an organization consisting of leaders who command clarity on international historical developments, international politics and ideological perspectives, something raucous and jealous elements inside Namibia must learn. SPYL leaders are exposed to international events and are often called upon by world youth and institutions to provide opinions and perspectives on world problems. We, therefore, thank the world youth for the assignment and promise to perform our duties to the best of our ability in the interest of world youth in their struggle to have a just and harmonious world characterized by anti-imperialist, leftist and pro-poor policies!
