#SSU #NEWSUPDATE A 18-year-old girl in Batken, Kyrgyzstan went through a hair-raising medical procedure in order to have a nine-pound hairball removed from her stomach. Ayperi Alekseeva was admitted into a hospital recently after she complained of stomach pains so severe that she was unable to eat anything, or even drink water. X-rays revealed the hairy blockage and realized they needed to operate quickly. “It was actually the only alternative, nothing else would solve the problem, surgeon Bahadir Bebezov said, according to News.au. Bebezov said the hairball formed in Alekseevas stomach because she had a nasty habit of picking up hair from the carpet and eating it and also chewing the tips of her hair. In fact her stomach was so badly swollen from hair and bits of wool from the carpet that it literally just oozed out as soon as the wall of the stomach was cut, Bebezov said according to the Telegraph. After going through the ordeal of major surgery, Alekseeva has promised her hair-eating days are over. Shes not the only person who paid a price for having a bizarre taste in snack foods. In October, 2012, doctors in Indore, India removed a hair ball weighing nearly four pounds from the stomach and small intestine of a 19-year-old girl. Like Alekseeva, she too had a taste for hair, but combined it with chalk. ------------ Johannesburg - A press statement was issued by Paralympian Oscar Pistoriuss family and legal team on Wednesday in attempt to forestall a pending news report, apparently relating to electronic communications devices. We are not sure of the allegations which are to be made or the source of such allegations, but we are not aware of any deletions having been affected by Oscar or effected on his instructions that could be relevant to this trial or could have impacted on this trial, they said. Last month Pistorius was acquitted on the charge of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot dead through a locked toilet door at his Pretoria home on Valentines Day last year. He said he mistook her for an intruder. Pistorius was instead found guilty of culpable homicide. ------------ United Nations - The United Nations said on Wednesday a staff member in Liberia has died from probable Ebola, while the World Health Organisation said it was optimistic that an Ebola vaccine could be available for mass vaccination campaigns as early as 2015. The spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters that the death of the Liberian national is the first of a UN staffer in the outbreak that he is aware of. Stephane Dujarric said the staffer was working with the UN mission in that country. The secretary-generals special representative there told reporters in the capital, Monrovia, on Wednesday that the staffer died last week.
