ST. JOHN VIANNEY, Patron of Parish Priests Saint of the Day - August 4 Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney was born in Dardilly, France in 1786. He spent his childhood days during the French Revolution when the Catholic Religion was in peril. By Gods intervention, he was spared from being drafted in Napoleons army. He entered the seminary in 1810 and ws ordained in 1815. He was assigned in Ars, a small town which he eventually converted into a God- fearing community. Later, when his zeal and holiness spread to other places, people travelled to seek and consult him. He spent 16-18 hours a day in the Confessional. He was a recipient o the coveted French Legion of Honor for championing the welfare of the poor; the medal of whih he later sold for an orphanage. He performed miracles; had the gifts of Healing and Prophecy. John Vianney died on August 4, 1859. His funeral was attened by 300 priests and 6000 lay people; He was canonized in 1925 and was proclaimed Patron of Parish Priests.
