ST Tip of Day: Forced Bulbs in interesting containers for holidays and the ol January blahs! Im a sucker for bringing in aged, mossy garden pots. If they arent too heavy, bring them in from your patio, garden, and terrace for the winter. Gather trophies and silver compotes too. Dont overlook the possibility of an old pickle jar either. They make for perfect little containers for bulb forced gifts. Forcing paper white bulbs can take 4-6 weeks, so get started now. If your local, and you love aged, mossy, clay pots, @schafittzels greenhouse (my cousins family biz) has small pots aged to perfection and a supply of bulbs. Ask for Mike if you cant find them. Then gather your potting materials...pebbles and/or potting soil. SO fun watching the shoots sprout up, out, and then, alas, the sweet scent of the bloom!
