STATEMENT BY FLOYD SHIVAMBU ON THE REPORTED EXPULSION FROM THE ANC YOUTH LEAGUE: 25 June 2013 It has come to my attention that the Zuma National Task Team (ZNTT) has taken a decision to expel me from the ANC Youth League. I find the decision hilarious because in all the public statements I have made since my suspension from the ANC; I have unequivocally said that I give away my membership of the Zuma African National Congress (ZANC) and consequently the ZANC Youth League. The public statement and opinion piece I wrote in August 2012 on Cyril Ramaphosa after he was associated with the killing of mineworkers in Marikana concluded by saying, “Perhaps the only thing he has done correctly was to endorse Jacob Zuma’s instruction to get some of us suspended from the ANC, because it would be so sad and painful to be associated with an ANC that kills its own citizens, justifies the killing and do nothing about instances of corruption, greed and crass materialism because its head is rotten with corruption allegations, fraud, money laundering and theft of government money to build impractical cities in the middle of nowhere”. The article I wrote about the formation of Agang in February 2012 published by the Sunday Independent on the 24th of February 2013 concluded by saying, “Agang is not a solution to South Africa’s developmental problems, but should be allowed to join the bandwagon of neo-liberal discourse of South African politics until a Leftist, youthful, radical and working class-based political alternative to the status quo finds expression inside or outside the ANC”. The article I wrote about the National Development Plan published by the Daily Maverick on the 25th of April 2013 said, “A coherent policy framework that speaks to these vital aspects (the 7 Cardinal Pillars for Economic Freedom in Our Lifetime) did not happen because the ANC has just proved to itself, the country and the world in its 53rd National Conference that it does not know what it wants, and instead going nowhere slowly”. In the recent past, I have openly and proudly associated with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), an economic emancipation movement, which is speaking to the people of South Africa on the possibility of contesting elections in the 2014 General elections. At all times, I have made it cogently clear to members and non-members of the ANC that I fortunately cannot be associated with the ZANC, which is directionless, possibly the most corrupt, and openly neo-liberal, right-wing political formation that will never solve South Africa’s socio-political problems. That the ZNTT only realised these open ideological views and commitments I made publicly now is hilarious, and a sign that they are always behind on issues. I have long ago lost confidence on the capacity of the ANC to take South Africa forward, particularly after its adoption of the National Development Plan as a policy objective and plan until 2030. I am an Economic Freedom Fighter, and will use everything in my power to persuade many South Africans to realise that the ZANC does not represent any future for South Africa. To me, membership of the ANC was never a privilege, but commitment to serve the youth and people of South Africa. I will continue to diligently serve the people of South Africa, contribute to a discourse that will culminate in real economic emancipation of the people. The ANC only has 1 million members in a South Africa that has a population of 52 million, and possibly more than 30 million who are eligible to join. Being part of the majority is therefore never a sin, but a joyous daybreak, which will allow one to speak freely and openly on WHAT IS TO BE DONE. I believe in the Freedom Charter, and I am inspired by JT Gumede, Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Robert Resha, William Nkomo, Oliver Tambo, Mxolisi Majombozi, Chris Hani, Vladimir Lenin, Karl Marx, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Deng Xiaoping, Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara, June 16 Generation of Youth, and the workers of Marikana, and all who in the face of difficulties pursued the struggle relentlessly. I will never be silenced by cowardly acts of repression. I am not at all concerned by the decision, which is taken way too late because I had already disassociated myself from the organisation that currently do not uphold the true values of the Freedom Charter and will never emancipate the people of South Africa. I am inspired by the fact that many young people in my generation appreciate the fact that we need to carry forward the struggle for economic emancipation. I will continue to fight for people’s economic liberation, and like real Activist Youth inspired by Lenin: Learn; Learn and Learn. ISSUED BY FLOYD SHIVAMBU, ECONOMIC FREEDOM FIGHTER:
