STATEMENT FROM THE HULL CITY OFFICIAL SUPPORTERS CLUB (HCOSC) - TopicsExpress

STATEMENT FROM THE HULL CITY OFFICIAL SUPPORTERS CLUB (HCOSC) BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS During the hour of 8.30 to 9.30 am yesterday morning, 9th August 2013, the HCOSC Press Officer, Bernard Noble was interviewed by Radio 5 Live, Talk Sport, KCFM Radio and BBC Radio Humberside regarding the new name officially adopted by the club in the Premier League. National and local newspapers also contacted Bernard and he responded accordingly under what some would say difficult circumstances because of the short notice involved. Bernard did not have time to consult fellow Directors or Officers or members of the HCOSC and therefore “had to go it alone” and respond to the media mainly from a personal point of view. Bernard had also to consider our standing as the Hull City OFFICIAL Supporters Club. During these interviews, Bernard was asked what was the HCOSC’s view on the name change and he said that we are conducting a poll on our social media sites to gather opinion (this poll will not necessarily be just from members of the HCOSC but also from other fans and supporters, who wish to share their opinion). A further poll will be carried out asap to current HCOSC members to seek out their views and the findings of these polls will be relayed to the Football Club when results are known. When pressed by some of the interviewers who were searching for more substance, Bernard said that, in his personal opinion, (being a traditionalist) he was disappointed at the name change but understood it had been made for business reasons by a very successful local businessman and someone who had saved the club from possible closure. Bernard also said that he personally would continue to call the club, Hull City, City and the Tigers and added that he expects the majority of the members to do the same. Assem Allam has also said in his interview that he expects the fans to continue calling the club Hull City, City and the Tigers. The HCOSC Board of Directors and Officers also have different opinions on this subject. However, the Board (as a majority) state that it would have been appropriate for the Football Club to have consulted them before the official announcement was made. This may have given them (the Board) time to consult members and allowed (the members) to be part of the decision making process. If this was not possible, then it would have made life easier if at least twenty four hours notice could have been given to allow the HCOSC, and in particular Bernard, to prepare to face the media frenzy. However, as owners of the Football Club, Assem and Ehab Allam have made this decision and only time will tell if it is the correct one. No matter what, the branding of the Football Club will gain recognition throughout the world based on the clubs success on the pitch and we would like to take this opportunity to let Steve Bruce, his staff and players know of our full support in the forthcoming Premier League season.
