STATEMENT FROM UNITED STATES MARSHAL JAMIE A. HAINSWORTH At approximately 1:30 pm today, Federal Court Security Officer Frank McKnight, 69, of North Kingstown, was struck and critically injured by a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus as he crossed Washington Street, between the U.S. District Court House and the John O. Pastore Building. A retired North Kingstown police officer, Officer McKnight has been employed as a court security officer for 13 years. Officer McKnight retired from the North Kingstown Police Department at the rank of Lieutenant after having served for approximately 25 years. Officer McKnight was transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center where he is currently listed in critical condition. We are truly thankful for the outpouring of support and concern for Officer McKnight from fellow law enforcement officers, the court and from the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family.
