STAY IN THE KNOW: Ladies, apparently #StreetHarassment has graduated to attempted murder when a man experiences rejection. The story in the below reporting is the second incident Ive heard of this week in which a man attacked a woman for rejecting his advances. In the previous case, the woman was shot in the head and didnt survive. Luckily, the victim in this case is expected to survive - her attacker sliced her throat. It is shameful, absolutely shameful, that we as women cant simply go about our day without being harassed with unwanted, and often tasteless and sometimes scary, advances from men. I should be able to say, Im not interested without fearing the rejected man may react with a physical assault or attempt to take my life. Sadly, Ive already adjusted my behavior when rejecting certain men in public. Ladies, you know the type - they instantly get aggressive if you either (1) dont respond at all, or (2) dont give them the response theyre looking for. I now ball my keys into a fist when I sense a potential threat, making sure a key is between every finger of that closed fist - usually while keeping my eyes on the man the whole time (it may look like I turned away, but trust my eyes are still following that mans movements and distance from me). Put your hands on me and Im doing some damage to you in the process, hopefully giving myself time to get away with the least amount of harm. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #IDontOweYouADate #NoMeansNo #LeaveMeAlone
