STEP B project has helped in developing educational infrastructure in Nigeria. -Education Minister Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has declared that the Science and Technology Post Basic (STEP B) project has impacted positively on the nations educational sector as it has helped in the development of fundamental learning infrastructure. The Minister who spoke on Monday in Abuja while receiving the Final Progress Report of the World Bank assisted STEP B project stated that through the programme the government has been able to refurbish 622 science laboratories across Federal universities, Federal Polytechnics, Federal Colleges of Education and Federal Unity Colleges. He said that the US$180million credit from the World Bank was also used to procure and install state of the art equipment in various fields of science and technology including engineering, medicine, agriculture and renewable energy. According to him, another area of success during the implementation of the STEP B project was acquisition of Internet and ICT facilities which are facilitating e-learning, e-examination and video conferencing in schools that benefitted from the programme. He said: The state of the art equipment procured across most of the institutions made it possible for staff and students to conduct quality research in many critical areas as well as regular practical activities during teaching and learning. Barr. Wike added that the achievements recorded under the STEP B project have contributed in the attainment of goals outlined in the Federal Ministry of Educations Four-Year Strategic Plan. He assured that Ministry working with the Federal Government will ensure that activities implemented under STEP B are sustained and scaled up. Presenting the Final Progress Report, National Coordinator, STEP B Project, Mrs Grace Takerhi said that the programme achieved the fundamental objectives for which it was initiated. The presentation of the Final Progress Report was witnessed by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala and the Director, Technology and Science Education, Engr Michael Ofor. Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant (Media) to the Supervising Minister of Education.
