STEVE LINES CROWNED KING OF BORDERLINE SPEEDWAY! Story by Phil Michell Video By James Rice ( JR Productions & Media) Mt Gambier AUS | 27th Jan, 2014 - Last Thursday night local hero Steven Lines received a standing ovation from the near capacity crowd at the Borderline Speedway as he claimed the biggest race on the Borderline schedule, the 2014 Kings Sprintcar Challenge. After starting on the front row Lines led the entire 30 lap journey to defeat top qualifier Tim Kaeding and a very impressive Cameron Gessner. Although Lines had the field covered the battle for the minor places was extremely entertaining as Gessner, Brad Sweet and Luke Dillon all trading places regularly. In fact Dillon, who would eventually finish fifth behind Sweet, actually got past Gessner for third late in race but he was unable to hold the position. Sixth across the line was David Gravel, who had started on the second row, but faded late after holding down third for a majority of the event. Earlier in the night Gravel had put in the performance of the evening storming to victory in heat 8 after starting from position 11. Seventh place went to resurgent Jamie Veal, who has been back to best in recent events following a change in chassis, while Dylan Jenkin, while World of Outlaw Champions Jason Meyers and Daryn Pittman completed the top 10. Current Australian Champion James McFadden would eventually finish in the 12th position but he was on a real charge and was just outside the top 5 after starting from position 14 but a spin just past the mid race point sent him to the rear of the field ending what was a spirited run. Earlier in the night Tim Kaeding paced the 67 car field with a lap of 10.847 seconds while the heat winners on the night included Kaeding, Robbie Farr, Lines, Gessner, Luke Dillon, Todd Wanless, Daniel Harding, Gravel, Max Johnston and Kerry Madsen. Todd Wanless was victorious in the Non-Qualifiers race while Kerry Madsen, Brooke Tatnell, Jake Tranter and Brent Aprile transferred for the C-Main onto the back of the B. Kyle Hirst, Jason Meyers, Dale Blaney and Darren Mollenoyux tagged on the back of the Kings Challenge feature race field with Mollenoyux getting a start after Madsen was put back for a clear infield pass in turn 1. The night also saw a number of drivers enter the upside club with Mark House rolling his machine in the non-qualifiers race while the likes of Brooke Tatnell, Matt Egel, Ash Scott and David Muir all crashing out in the heat races while Mollenoyux ending his night upside down in the A-Main.
