STILL IN UTAH - LEAVING TOMORROW FOR SURE FIRST DAY OF NEW ADVENTURE First – THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of my wonderful friends who were there non-stop to assist in getting me out of the condo! You are all awesome and I love you dearly. Heidi and Karen went above and beyond by working hours and hours after a long day at their real job. Heidi worked with me until the wee hours of the morning the last few days – thanks Heidi!!! Kandy and Mike spent two days hauling stuff that filled a 5x10 storage unit, as well as bringing me food. I would have never finished if it had not been for those of you who helped! Once it was all done, had to take the motorhome to gas it up, fill the LPG and water tanks, then check into the KOA for a good night’s sleep to be ready to head out on Friday, August 30th. Driving the motorhome is lots of fun but getting gas is another story entirely! I never seem to be able to get close enough to the pump for the line to reach and this time was no exception. The exception was the helpful people. As I pulled in, the security guard came out to make sure I was in the correct lane for gas (not diesel), then the gentleman getting gas at the next pump guided me into the space. However, when I attempted to pull the line, you guessed it, not close enough for it to reach. As I went to get back into the Bounder to back up and try again, a guy walking by without a shirt asked if I might have a shirt he could wear in order to get food because they would not serve him without one, so I found a t-shirt and gave it to him. Then the security guard came back to guide me while backing. Still would not reach. Gentleman next to me suggested I wait until he was done and use that pump. The security guard stayed with me and directed me into the spot next to that pump and finally the line reached. The security guard stayed with me the entire time the gas was flowing. I explained to the security guard that he and the gentleman at the next pump were the first to ever provide assistance and offered my sincere appreciation for the help. He was stunned and humbled, said it made him feel great to be told. Once the tank was full, the security guard left me and as I returned to the Bounder, the guy wearing my t-shirt returned to offer thanks but kept the shirt. Now, it was off to the KOA to fill the LPG gas tank and check in for a good night’s sleep before heading out on Friday, August 30th. LPG tank was filled in no time and then it was into the office for check in. The lady at the counter was named Barbara, she took the time to tell me all kinds of things about RVing because she has been an RVer for 15 years. Things such as, it’s important to be a permanent resident of a state with less or no taxes, such as NV or TX with no income tax. Apparently Texas is one of the best states to choose for residency because of low tax rates but unless you register there your permanent domicile reverts to your last state of residency, which in my case is Utah. She also told me about which RV groups were most beneficial to join and those to avoid. She was wonderful. We finally pulled into our FIRST RV SPACE–W35–and started the process of connecting everything for the first time. Just after I got the electric plugged in and water hose connected, the lady from across the way came over to meet Ginger. As I went to hook up the sewer the connection didn’t fit as it should have so I walked over to ask her husband about the end of the hose. Once he found out it was my first time connecting things he shared his little tricks to make things easier. He also offered to give me the connection for the end of the sewer hose but his extra didn’t fit my hose. He suggested I go to the office to see if they had one. I walked up to the office and ask the girl behind the counter but before she could respond a guy standing next to me in a KOA shirt told me that someone had left one and he picked it up and put in the shed. He told me to go back to my space and he would bring it to me, which I did. Ellen wanted to take a walk along the river with our dogs, her Ollie and my Ginger, and said that her husband would wait for the KOA guy bringing the hose connection. So, off we went to walk by the river and when we returned the sewer was all connected. We exchanged contact information and I’m sure will be lifelong friends from this point on. Earlier in the day I received a phone call from a potential client who wanted to meet the next day so we set a time at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 30 – guess I’m not leaving tomorrow. What an incredible first day to our new adventure. Does it get any better than this? Guess we’ll see what life brings. I slept late, arose and started straightening and rearranging the contents that had been thrown into the Bounder as we quickly moved things from the condo to the motorhome. Then showered, dressed and left for the client meeting at Totem’s. We were there until almost 5:00 PM and I hadn’t eaten all day so I stopped on the way back for food. I also stopped in at the KOA Office to let them know that I had been unable to connect to their Wi-Fi. Vicky, the office manager took the time to check my connections but found nothing unusual, so she called their techs who were all busy but she left a message for them to call me directly. I came home, they called about 6:00 PM and worked until midnight attempting to connect me to the internet without success. The next day I went to the office to let them know and tell them I definitely needed that connection to do my work. Barbara was on duty and offered her private connection for my use if I could access it. So Stacey, the office manager on duty offered one free night stay for the inconvenience, called the techs to inquire as to the status of their findings and then took me on the golf cart to see if we could find a connection elsewhere in the park, including Barbara’s private connection. The connection to Barbara’s provider was successful so they changed my space from W-35 to 1026 so I would be close enough to connect throughout the night and get my work done. This is true customer service! Once again people going above and beyond on my behalf – this time strangers instead of friends and family. Another awesome day at KOA. It is now Sunday, September 1, 2013 and we will definitely be checking out and hitting the road first thing tomorrow morning. Denver here we come!! Get ready Tamara and Dakota, we are on our way.
