STOP EXPECTING reason, compassion, empathy, morality, or even legality in relation to asylum seekers. START GRAPPLING WITH irrational obsession to ‘win’ at any cost. I’m grateful to know I’m in good company with this line of talk (and not totally losing the plot). Someone on this page recently commented (and now I can’t find it!) that David Marr has said something similar, and Michael Gordon, political editor of “The Age” recently wrote an article: “There’s no turning back on boats for Morrison” (8 July 2014). I think this is a conversation we need to develop to see where it goes in suggesting alternative ways of working for change.
