STRANDING UPDATE: Of the 49 whales which were found stranded - TopicsExpress

STRANDING UPDATE: Of the 49 whales which were found stranded offshore from Puponga this morning, one was dead and another two later died. The 46 remaining pilot whales were refloated around 11.30am and are now swimming strongly in deeper water. They are being monitored by DOC rangers in a boat and volunteers on the ground. It is too early to tell yet whether the whales will avoid restranding again as they are still in the area of Farewell Spit but rescuers are hopeful that they will make it safely out to sea.
