STRENGTHENING INSTITUTIONS OF STATE – FORMAL & INFORMAL Among the proposals put forward by President Obama of U.S.A. during his 1st official visit to Ghana as part of his African tour, was the need to Strengthen Institutions of State for effective and efficient governance. If Ghana’s credentials has been boosted by the Supreme Court verdict of 29th August, 2013, it was based on the afore-mentioned proposition and the measures put in place to address it. Let me say a big kudos to institutionalized systems in the background of a vibrant democracy, where separation of powers is in force to the hilt. If Cyprus government made a pronouncement to its nationals in a particular location, to be wary of security threats, because of an anticipated riots after election verdict like ours, it would look like a drop of water into a dried up well in a desert region. But let America attempt even a whisper on same to its nationals and it would assume a much wider dimension worldwide. In effect, Ghana was being showcased ( an orchestration from Heaven). Thank God we passed the test, which will go a long way to enhance this nation’s credibility among comity of nations thus, attracting the attention of right thinking personalities / investors / nations. There is more room for improvement. The lenses of leadership should be cast wider to identify areas of defects/gaps, and draw up elaborate plans to rectify them. To me, Institutions of State should not be limited to the formal only but the informal ones eg the religious groups(stakeholders) had during our critical moments, reached out to every Tom, Dick and Harry to disseminate the message of peace, love and unity for one another, constraining people to accept the verdict in our strides without complaints. Above all, thanks to God who superintended, making most Ghanaians stay indoors(not a holiday), stores closed, gagging / restraining not only the jubilant, but detaining the Supreme Court Judges for a while, censoring the verdict statement, configuring it(Yes!! God did it – Ezek3:26-27, Exo4:1-20, Matt10:18-20) to make it a bit difficult for a lay man to understand, such that, long after the declaration, most Ghanaians were glued behind their Television sets, wanting to figure-out what were they hearing because ecstasy / merriment with its attendant hugging, dancing, should follow understanding of the issue at stake, hence the low key or nil celebration. THIS IS THE MIRACLE OF GHANA , which the U.N. will find it difficult to come to grips with. My God has done it for my family and your family & others. Thank U Jesus!!. There is sooo much joy in my heart. What about ‘U’ ?.
