STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AT THE COURT Information session at the Harward Center on Monday, September 16, 4:30-5:30pm. Volunteers provide much needed client services while also learning about poverty, Maine law and the legal needs of the poor. If you are interested in learning about family law, developing interviewing skills and making a meaningful contribution, please consider the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project. Many Bates students have participated over the years, committing their time to this worthy public service. We are currently looking for students to participate in our Courthouse Assistance Project (CHAP), held every Thursday, from 1-4pm at the Lewiston District Court. If you are interested in learning about this opportunity, please attend an information session at the Harward Center on Monday, September 16, 4:30-5:30pm. We have openings now for 2-3 highly interested and committed students. We will likely have openings second semester as well. If you want to attend the info session simply to learn about this opportunity, other opportunities in our Portland office, or the summer internship program, all are welcome. Applications will be available; interviews will be held on campus, as well as two training sessions. Join the ranks of past Bates students in providing a much needed service to the community. You may also contact Lin Martin-Hunt directly at [email protected] or 774-4518, ext. 1223.
