STUDENTS DON THREATEN TO CLOSE DOWN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES De University students wey dey under de umbrella of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, yesterday burst enta de streets for Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, dem dey call on de Federal Government to listen to de demands of de Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. As news men dey speak with de students, one of dem Asafon Sunday, wey be Director of Action and Mobilisation NANS, South–West, yan say between 2000 and 2011 de Naija government earn about N48.48 trillion from de sale of oil alone, against N3.10 trillion earn between 1979 and 1999. Ihn yan say de Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, in 2012 financial year alone generate N5.12 trillion from tax paid by de masses. According to am: “Wit dis tremendous upswing for de revenue at de disposal of de Naija government, one fit expect such to translate to commensurate improvement in de quality of Naija’s public education as well as oda social services.” Ihn condemn de refusal of Federal Government to budget a reasonable amount of money to education sector as recommended by UNESCO wey be 26 per cent of de country’s total budget.
