STUDY ABROAD TO EUROPE CASTELLON, SPAIN SUMMER 2014 (JUNE 21TH– JULY 12TH) John Jay College “Crime Victims in Comparative Context” Instructor: Rosemary Barberet This program will take place in Castellon, Spain. The purpose of this study abroad program is to engage students in the comparative study of victimology by examining the causes, consequences and responses to victimization in Spain and Europe. Spain is an ideal site for expanding our U.S.-.based knowledge about crime victims. Besides victims of common crimes, there are active groups of victims of Basque terrorism, of the March 11th, 2004 bombings in Madrid (linked to Al Qaeda), the largest attack to date on European soil, and there is renewed interest in the victims of the dictatorship of General Franco (1939-1975).
