SUCCESS IN EDUCATION NEEDS PARTNERSHIP For the country to realise meaningful development, it needs skilled personnel who can compete with the world’s best and as such concerted efforts and support from stakeholders is crucial, acting Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has said. Speaking during the trophy handover ceremony to the best performing primary school in Kweneng South Constituency recently, he said the school needed to be commended for producing exceptional results. “I urge you not to be complacent, I expect better results from you at the end of this year. To the students be dedicated and diligent with your studies as this will help you archive goals and shape the destiny of the nation at large. You have shown great potential and I therefore expect you to develop a propensity for excellence so that you are counted among Botswana’s top schools, the minister said. He said for Gobuamang Memorial Primary school to have scooped first position in Kweneng South constituency out of 13 schools and coming third in Mogoditshane/Thamaga sub-region out of 26 schools was commendable and worth celebrating. Of all the 58 students who set for the PSLE last year, eight obtained A, 11 got B while 28 passed with C and seven and four got D and E respectively. The school is ranked 8th out of 91 schools in the whole of Kweneng. The minister also commended the commitment and hard work by the management, teaching staff, parents and students of Gobuamang primary for continued efforts to improve school examination performance. “Despite being a village your results continue to bear testimony of your hard work. Your academic excellence is an avenue towards realizing the nation’s long term vision 2016 in the sphere of education. Let me take this opportunity to remind you that Botswana must be educated and well informed nation by 2016,” he said. For his part for area Member of Parliament Mr. John Seakgosing said he donated the trophy to encourage students to take education seriously after the constituency continued to record a decline in PSLE results. Dr. Seakgosing who is also the Minister of Health encouraged students to commit to their studies and quit things that will destroy their future. He commended the PTA for its relentless hard work in promoting a harmonious learning environment. (BOPA)
