SUNDAY SERMON 28TH SEPTEMBER 2014 BIBLE LESSONS: FIRST LESSON – DEAUTERONOMY 6:1-9, SECOND LESSON – LUKE 20:27-38 FIRST LESSON – TOPIC: THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD INTRODUCTION – Moses in the first lesson charged the Israelite to be sure to keep up their Religion in Canaan. He lays down the great principle of obedience, the first truth to be believed that Jehovah God is one. He also lays the first duty to be done, to love Jehovah God with all our hearts and then prescribes the means of keeping the Religion MAIN SERMON Moses in this lesson taught the people all that God commanded him to teach them, he did not deviate from teaching the people the commandments of God, as shepherds, ministers, teachers of the word, we are to teach the people all that God has commanded us to teach and neither more nor less ( Mathew 28:20). Religion and righteousness can secure the prosperity of any family, Nation or Church, those that are well taught with God’s word are well fed as Israel in the land flowing with milk and honey. Moses in verses 4 and 5 gave a brief summary on Religion and taught the children of Israel what to believe concerning God. 1. That the God we serve is Jehovah, a being infinitely and internally perfect, self existent and self sufficient 2. He is one and the only true God. Moses also taught the people the duty which God requires from them and the duty is summed up in this principle “love thy Lord thy God with all thy heart” Means where also giving by Moses to the children of Israel for maintaining and keeping the Religion that it might not wither and go to decay, the means are (a) Meditation – “these words which I command thee shall be in thy hearts” God words must be laid in our hearts that our thought may be daily conversant with the word and thereby the whole soul may be brought to abide and act under the impression of the word (b) Religious Education for children – “thou shall teach them diligently to thy children” (self explanatory). (c) pious discourse – the word most be frequently and seriously talk about not only to the children but also to friends and companions and must be spoken about wherever we may be or found ourselves. CONCLUSION The key to obeying God’s commandments and teaching our children to love God is stated in the this lesson, if you want your children to follow God, you must make God a part of your everyday experiences, we must teach our children diligently to see God in all aspect of life and not just merely reading the word or going to Church alone, we must meditate on the word and also teach our children to understand and appreciate what is therein written. SECOND LESSON – TOPIC: RESURRECTION INTRODUCTION – In every ages there have been men of corrupt minds that have endeavoured to subvert the fundamental truth of the real Religion. The Sadducees in the days of our Saviour are leaders who do not believe in the resurrection of the death, they adhered only to the books of Genesis through Deauteronomy which contain no explicit teachings on resurrection. MAIN SERMON It is common for those that design to undermine any truth of God to perplex it and load it with difficulties, this the Sadducees did, they weaken people’s faith in the doctrine of resurrection, they put a question upon the supposition that the question would not be answered satisfactorily. The case was a matter of a woman that had seven husbands and the question by the Sadducees to Christ was that the woman will be whose wife in the world to come? Our Lord in his response gives a striking difference between the state of the children of men on earth and the state of the children of God in heaven. Christ explains that the children in this world marry and are giving out in marriage, both good and bad marry themselves and give their daughters out in marriage. The world to come is another thing and Christ explains how things will be in the world to come. 1. The inhabitants of the world – the inhabitants shall be those that shall be accounted worthy to obtain it, that is, those that are interested in Christ merit who purchase it for us through His precious blood. 2. The happy state of the inhabitants of the world – those that have entered into the joy of God need not the joy of this world, the joy in the world of God is seraphic, where the body itself shall be a spiritual body, the delight of sense will all be banished and where there is a perfection of holiness there is no occasion for marriage as a preservative from sin. 3. Equal to angels – the inhabitants of the world of God will in no way be inferior to the holy angels, the inhabitants shall see the same sight and share in the same joy with the holy angels. 4. They are the children of the resurrection – this means they are made capable of the enjoyment of the future state, that is, the world of God. CONCLUSION There is an undoubted truth that there is another life after this life and there were discoveries made at the early ages of the Church. Moses also showed this when he called God as Jehovah God called Himself, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had departed from this world many years before and their bodies were turned to dust in the cave of Machpelal. We must therefore conclude that these Patriarchs, though have died and have been buried in this world but still live in another world, which is the world of God. The proof and evidence which we have of this world of God is that, our God is not the God of the death but of the living and will surely raise us up to be with Him in His world. My prayer this morning is that we shall all be counted worthy to be one of the inhabitants of the world of God…………….Happy Sunday.
