SUPPORT SWARTZ CREEK TEACHERS. Subject: support Swartz Creek teachers Good afternoon, My name is Eric Minore and I am the local President of the Swartz Creek Education Association, which is the union representing about 200 teachers in the Swartz Creek Community Schools. I am writing to ask for your support. The Swartz Creek teachers have been working without a contract for almost 14 months, and have been bargaining for almost 20 months. In my opinion, our district administration has not been interested in bargaining a far – concessionary, but fair – contract. They have been pushing to get through the process of bargaining, mediation and fact finding, so that they can impose a 5% cut on our teachers. We believe the district has also been engaging in activity that is possibly immoral, unprofessional and even illegal, in an attempt to interfere with bargaining, and undermine union leadership. They have intimidated members to keep them from speaking out, engaged in a campaign of mis-information, transferred the president and limited access to the union office, and ignored grievances and requests for information. Please consider attending our next board meeting on Wednesday October 23rd, at 7:00 pm at the Swartz Community Schools administration building, 8354 Cappy Lane, Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Your presence would mean a lot. If you would like to speak, there are two slots on the agenda for public comments – one near the beginning of the meeting and one near the end.
