SWIMMERS SAVE MAN FROM WATERY GRAVE AT LAKE MAMANASCO (Ridgefield Press,July 22,1937) Matthew Margon of Smiths Ridge, New Canaan was saved from drowning at Lake Mamanasco Sunday afternoon by the prompt and efficient action of a group of Ridgefield people who saw him fall to come to the surface after diving into the lake. Three hours after the rescue Mr.Margon had revived sufficiently to be driven home. Altero Ciuccoli of Ridgefield, an experienced swimmer, dove into the lake when the main failed to appear on the surface and within a few minutes with the aid of several other swimmers, had brought him to shore. Ciuccoli then began artificial respiration methods and within a half hour,Margon had resumed breathing. A short time later, he regained consciousness. Persons at the scene expressed the opinion that the man had gone into the water too soon after eating heartily of a picnic lunch which he and Mrs.Margon had brought to the lake for the days outing. He was seized with cramps almost as soon as he touched the water and when pulled from the five foot depth was doubled up and had stopped breathing.
