Sad to hear about the passing of Paul Revere. Paul Revere & the Raiders were one of the best bands of the 60s and thats saying a hell of a lot. To truly grasp the significance of Paul Revere, you have to understand the context of what was happening post-Beatles. Everyone thinks Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys fired right back at the British Invasion with Good Vibrations & Pet Sounds, but that was a couple years post-Beatles. Which was like a decade at that point, things were happening so rapidly. The American bands that responded to the Beatles, the Stones, the Animals, the Kinks and others were mainly quickly tossed together garage acts aping the Brit sound. Most of them managed to get out a hit or two before their moment passed. But there were others. There were fully formed, snarling powerhouses just waiting for their shot at the national stage. Legendary acts like The Dave Clark Five, Alex Chiltons Box Tops, and the furious proto-punk of the MC5 and... Paul Revere and the Raiders. Look beyond the outfits and the synchronized dance steps. Thats just the marketing. Listen to what Paul & Mark Lindsay were putting down here in this, the banned & blacklisted Kicks. Rock & Roll was the best thing ever. Well never see anything as vibrant and alive and inspiring. Cheers, Paul. m.youtube/watch?v=84L7wRSg2Vk
