Sad update..:( Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of 38-year-old Clinton Wesley Cope, whose body was found Monday afternoon in a wooded area in the 1400 block of Mohawk Ridge Road. Cope was last seen on Nov. 18. His body was found in a wooded area on property owned by his father. Copes father, Donald Cope, was in the woods about 5:45 p.m. Monday near his home at 1415 Mohawk Ridge Road when he saw what appeared to be a body from a distance, sheriffs Lt. Wesley Holt said in a report. Fearing it might be his missing son, the father asked a neighbor to check the body. Cope was reported missing on Nov. 19. In December, the Greene County Sheriffs Department asked for the publics help in locating him. The neighbor called the Sheriffs Department after seeing the body and showed deputies where it was. The body was face down on the ground with a shotgun under it, the report said. Investigators and the county coroner were notified. I do not suspect any foul play at this time. However, its an ongoing investigation, and I wont know anything until the autopsy is completed, sheriffs Detective Capt. Jeff Morgan said today. An autopsy on Cope will be conducted today or Wednesday at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City. If anything unusual is found, the Sheriffs Department will be notified, Morgan said. According to a missing person report filed with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Cope was in possession of a 16-gauge single-barrel shotgun the last time he was seen. Cope, who had recent addresses in Rogersville and Bulls Gap, was on foot, the report said. The shotgun was placed into evidence. Clinton Wesley Cope was last seen alive in the Mohawk community of Greene County. His family told authorities He may have a medical condition for which he may need treatment, Sheriff Pat Hankins said in a Dec. 11 news release.
