Sailed again yesterday (8/5/13) with even better wind. Measured - TopicsExpress

Sailed again yesterday (8/5/13) with even better wind. Measured 23mph in the channel but the built-in ‘wind on the skin’ meter measured higher, say 25+ I should have asked Jim to crew for me when Nixon and I found him down at the marina earlier. But when I just about ready to push off down the ramp, while putting on my helmet w/ cam, the boat got a south-west guest and even with just the jib just cleated loosely, it was enough to launch it w/o me. I leaped in after it to restrain it running into the neighbor’s “cast-iron” party barge, and saved it, but the helmet went into the lake. Unfortunately I had forgotten to replace the memory card and end cap before remounting it to the helmet. I left the cam inside and went out for my sail anyway. SO not only was there no video, the camera was lost (shorted out). Luckily I found just one seller of this Chinese “Go-Pro knockoff” who sells from Long Island, here in the USA. So I don’t have to wait 20-30 for the usual “slow-boat-from-China” shipping. I should have it by the weekend. As I said, I could have used Jim crewing, although most of the sail was great, not as many weeds to contend with as the day before, after rounding the islands, coming up wind, I had to stop to pull the rudders and dump weeds, and got hammered (sailing technical term for heavy wind gust) with just the jib cleated loosely (again) and went over. Got her righted in about 30 seconds, WOW then sailed off until I loaded up the lee dagger board and went downwind to pull it. Got hammered again, and went over for a second time. Both of which could have been avoided with a crew tending the jib. SORRY I didn’t ask you Jim. Here are a few screen captures – forecast and GPS – My Tracks app. but pics and vids will have to wait now. Well, all and all, it was a great sail, love heavy air, BIG TIME! B ;-) B
