Salams. There are many chain emails/texts in circulation which require the recipient to forward the message to all their contacts. They contain emotionally threatening messages such as this is an oath (amanah) and makes the mountains shake. One day you will require a Dua.. etc. Our response about such messages: An oath is a mutually agreed contract between two parties and cannot be involuntarily imposed on somebody. Although making Duas for our fellow brothers and sisters are virtuous and noble deeds, such threatening messages are seen as spiritual blackmail. All brothers are sisters are kindly requested to refrain from circulating and creating such messages. A general message requesting Duas for an individual is a more appropriate approach. May Allah swt give us the true understanding of Islam and allow us to stay clear of innovations and acts which have no base in our Deen. اٰمين ثمَّ اٰمين. Please forward.
