Salvation and After "Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from - TopicsExpress

Salvation and After "Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy hame, and to triumph in thy praise." (Psalm 106:47) The supplication here is about Israel being delivered from captivity. The application we make is a-Gospel application. Our verse speaks of salvation, separation, and service. Salvation. "Save us, O Lord our God." The only way of salvation is through Jesus Christ. "Lord" here is Jehovah, and the Jehovah of the Old Testament is the Jesus of the New Testament. Also note that our verse says that Jehovah is God. Here then is an Old Testament testimony of the New Testament truth of the Deity of Jesus Christ. And note that "our" God indicates that this matter of salvation is a personal matter. We must ourselves turn to the Lord and ask Christ to be "our" Savior. Others cannot do it for us; we must do it ourselves. Our faith must be personal not proxy. Separation. "Gather us from among the heathen." The salvation of the Israelites would result in separation from the heathen where they were captive. In application, Gospel salvation also brings the message of separation. Christians are to separate from the world. Separation is not popular today and many professing Christians like mingling with the world. But the Psalmist warned of this mingling earlier in this Psalm when he said, "But [they] were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works" (Psalm 106:35). Saints must separate from people, places, practices, and philosophies of the world or they will be corrupted by the world. Service. "To give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise." Here is the purpose of salvation. We are saved so we can serve and honor the Lord. Any blessing we get from God is not just for our own joy and pleasure…. but is primarily for the purpose of serving and honoring God. We are saved not just to be delivered from the clutches of hell, but to serve God and bring honor to Him. Many professing saints have not learned this lesson yet, for they are very reluctant to commit to any service in church. …Salvation by God ought to inspire service for God… John G. Butler
