Sam Lee follows in the line of such greats as Ralph Vaughan - TopicsExpress

Sam Lee follows in the line of such greats as Ralph Vaughan Williams, Cecil Sharp, Bert Lloyd, and Alan Lomax – he travels the British Isles as a folk art collector, recording, transcribing and learning songs, stories, traditions, recipes and more from the Roma and Traveller communities. He is also a performer, and at WOMEX 12 in Thessaloniki he showcased his unique arrangements of British and Irish Roma and Traveller songs, which earned him a Mercury Prize nomination the same year. Todays video is Lees performance of The Ballad of George Collins live at the Mercury Awards, showing influences from klezmer, Eastern European brass, jazz and American folk music as well as the British folk tradition. https://youtube/watch?v=-lloMncf16M #20YearsofWOMEX
