Sam Nujoma Demands Release of The Five Havana, Cuba, Sep 11.- The historic leader of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, demanded the immediate and unconditional release from prison of the Cuban antiterrorists unfairly incarcerated in the United States since 1998 and the lifting of the U.S. blockade of Cuba. In a letter addressed to the president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Kenia Serrano, the renowned African politician apologized for not being able to participate, for work reasons, in the 10th International Colloquium for the Freedom of The Five, to be held in Havana on September 11-14. Nujoma expressed his wish of joining efforts with all progressive forces of the world opposing terrorism and supporting the right of the peoples to peace and justice, as part of global efforts to put an end to the silence surrounding the case of The Five. In the letter, he shows his confidence in the strengthening of the wide world solidarity movement to achieve the unconditional freedom of the three Cuban heroes still in prison after a biased trial: Gerardo Hernandez, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, since the other two, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, are already in Cuba after serving their unfair sentences. The former Namibian head of state also recalled the invaluable cooperation of Cuba in the Angolan war, particularly in the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, which forced the South African regime to sit at the negotiating table and accept Resolution 435 of the United Nations, which gave independence to his country. Nujoma also demanded the end of the unfair blockade of the United States against Cuba –in force for over 50 years now- and asked the President of ICAP to convey his revolutionary greetings to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro and to Cuban President Raul Castro, as well as to The Five.(acn).
