Samuel L Jackson is tired of racist police. Now, while I respect Jacksons ability to have made millions of dollars playing different versions of the exact same character in 40 different films over the last 30 years, I have to say that I find myself tired of very different things. The list is long, but it definitely includes: -False narratives that are soundly debunked but still repeated, ad nauseum, by people either incapable of understanding basic facts or completely uninterested in them. -Cowards who call all police racists and murderers but would not hesitate to dial 911 if theyre ever in an emergency situation. -Endlessly repeated statistics about how many black men are killed by police, but never put in the obvious context that the vast majority of these people were violent criminals. -Assumptions that any time a black guy is killed by a white guy, its always racist, even though that assumption is never applied in the reverse. Even when, say, a gang of black teens drag a white man out of his car and beat him to death with hammers in the middle of the street. -That most of us love to complain about the stress at our jobs, but still we struggle to empathize with the fact that police officers, especially in the city, have jobs that are many times more stressful than anything weve ever done. Maybe if we thought about that, wed perhaps cut these men and women a little slack. -That racial con artists lecture police about proper law enforcement procedure, but never, not even once, not even for a second, do they stop to say to the criminals: hey, maybe you can help the situation by not committing crimes and not fighting cops. -The fact that Im supposed to sympathize with criminals who make no attempt to contribute anything positive at all to society, over law enforcement officers who, for the most part, are at least trying to do something valuable and important. -That various people will call all of these points racist, and then go about their merry way, never hazarding an explanation as to why, specifically, its racist to make factual observations like these. -Also, Im tired of Geico commercials.
