San Diego CA, FOREVER HOME NEEDED. The Louisiana Catahoula - TopicsExpress

San Diego CA, FOREVER HOME NEEDED. The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog is remarkable. It was thought that when Hernando DeSoto came to Louisiana in 1539, he brought war dogs. The dogs were left behind and it is thought that the Indians bred the war dogs with the red wolf and made the Catahoula. Until the 1940s, you could not buy one - only borrow them. The Catahoula has the spirit of the wolf, the speed of the greyhound, the strength of a Mastiff and the assertiveness of the Beauceron. He is a loving, intelligent and loyal companion and is the state dog of Louisiana. The Catahoula is described as the most versatile dog in the world. He loves to hunt and herd. They are disease resistant and not fussy eaters. In Louisiana, they are used to hunt wild boar and wild cattle in the swamps. They will nip at the flanks of a boar until it begins squealing and draws the rest of its pack, then the dogs will lead the boars into a rough corral, and jump out the other side. They are natural guards, especially of children. They excel at obedience trials. They are not barkers, unless the situation warrants it. This dog does not do well being left in a back yard by themselves. They are loyal and attentive to their owner. They need exercise and an experienced handler. This dog needs a firm, but gentle, hand and they need to know who the boss is - if its not you, it will be them. This boy is an excellent example of a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog and should be a welcome addition to your home. 911 FOSTER/FOREVER HOME NEEDED San Diego/Riverside or Orange county.
